Silver Alloy
Silver Alloy
A silver-copper alloy lab question?
Please help and show me how you did it. Thanks!
A silver-copper alloy had a mass of 0.1264 g. When the alloy was dissolved and the
silver precipitated as silver chloride, the precipitate had a mass of 0.1375 g. Calculate the
percent of silver in the alloy. Show your calculations.
I will show you how to do it but not the calculations, you have to learn….
Ag + Cl —–> AgCl
One mole of Ag forms one mole of AgCl
Mass of AgCl formed = 0.1375 g
Moles of AgCl formed = 0.1375 g / Molar mass of AgCl
As one mole of AgCl is formed from one mole of Ag
therefore No. of moles of Ag = No. of moles of AgCl
Mass of Ag in sample = No. of moles of Ag x molar mass of Ag.
Percentage Ag in sample =
(Mass of Ag in sample/ Mass of sample) x 100%
