difference between shimano slx xt xtr, hone saint?
I used to be into building of bikes alot, when i were younger, and i understood reasonably the difference between lx, xt and xtr.
howevere having recently “got back into it” i have noticed there are 2 new guys……………… hone and saint?? could anyone please explain what these are and can you place them somewhere in the line up. ie
deore -> lx -> slx -> xt -> xtr

Hone is actually out of the market.
Shimano had the ‘standard’ line for mountain bike, which was Deore, LX, XT and XTR. Then they decided to bring a new group which was designed for more extreme use, and most of it was overbuilt to make sure they survived falls and crashes. This group was Saint, and it’s still a very good group for freeriding and downhill bikes. Then, Shimano released the Hone group, which was to be a lower cost saint group. Some of the components were new, but some were just the LX component but in black.
For 2009 Shimano decided to move the LX group for tourist bikes (not mountain bikes), dropped the Hone group and introduced the SLX group, which so far has been working pretty good, it is cheaper than XT, and it’s actually very sturdy. In a way SLX replaced LX and Hone.
So, maybe you could put the line up as:
deore -> slx -> xt -> xtr
